| Designed in 1908 by Alfred Westmacott, M.I.N.A., who was responsible for so many successful Solent classes, X One Design yachts first raced in 1911. Today, about 150 XODs compete in regular weekday, evening and weekend racing from clubs at Hamble, Itchenor, Lymington, Parkstone and Yarmouth. The highlight of the year is Skandia Cowes Week, where XODs have been consistently the largest class averaging 74 starters over the last 10 years. The quality of the racing is the key to the success of the XODs, with their large fleet and close one design competition acknowledged to be among the best. |
