| The International Sonar, a 7m keelboat designed by Bruce Kirby (designer of the Laser), was introduced to the UK and Europe in 1996. Already established in the USA for many years with a 500 plus fleet, it is now built in Cowes to strict one-design class rules and offers a full regatta and racing schedule throughout the year in the UK and abroad. The Sonar gained ISAF International Class recognition in March 2000 and held its first World Championship in Newport, R.I. in 2001. The next world championships will be hosted by the Eastern Yacht Club, Marblehead, USA on 16 to 23 September 2007. | ||
