The 19ft National Squib Keelboat was designed by Oliver Lee in 1967 and has been competing at the event since 1977, making this our 30th birthday at Cowes Week. This two-crew boat with its distinctive mace-coloured sails is ideally suited to racing in the Solent and provides inexpensive, close one-design racing for sailors with a broad range of age and experience. Over 800 have been built and 500 race regularly in fleets around the UK and Ireland. The local fleet at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Fishbourne, has provided strong competition to visiting representatives in recent years and this rivalry has made Skandia Cowes Week a must in the Squib calendar and the class one of the largest of the week.
