| Designed by Rod Johnstone of J Boats, the 35-foot J/109s are racing at Skandia Cowes Week according to strict one-design class rules which means they compete on a level rating. Therefore, the first boat that crosses the finish line wins the race. There now 75 J/109s in the UK and Ireland.
Like the other models from J Boats, most of which will be racing in the J-Sprit Class, the J/109 is easily distinguishable from the other boats on the race track. All of the J/109s have the J/109 logo on their mainsail and all feature a large asymmetric spinnaker which is flown from a retractable carbon bowsprit.
