Can anyone compete in the King of Cowes?
No, only the Class Winning skippers from the 32 most competitive classes at Skandia Cowes Week 2007 will be invited to compete in the King of Cowes regatta.
Who must helm the boat?
The invited Skandia Cowes Week Class winner must helm the boat during all races of the King of Cowes Regatta.
How are the helms allocated to their boats?
In order to ensure complete fairness a draw will take place to pair up the helms and the boats. This will conducted in early June shortly after all formal entries have been received.
Will the winner of the Laser SB3 Class at Skandia Cowes Week 2006 compete for the King of Cowes?
Yes, the Laser SB3 winner will compete in the King of Cowes, however, his boat will not be used for the competition and he will be allocated to a boat through the random draw in the same way as all other competitors.
How are the additional crew members selected?
The Skandia Cowes Week Class Winner must helm the boat and the Laser SB3 owner or his representative will be the first crew members. The third, and if necessary fourth, crew member should be appointed by the helm in discussion with the owner.
Do the teams have to meet the Laser SB3 crew weight limit?
Yes – all crews will be required to weigh in during the registration period prior to the start of the regatta and their combined crew weight must not exceed the class limit of 270kg.
Where will the regatta take place?
The boats will be based at Shepards Wharf Marina in West Cowes. The racing will take place on windward leeward courses in the central Solent. The Social events and media facilities will take place at Cowes Yacht Haven.
When do competitors need to arrive in Cowes?
All Laser SB3’s must arrive at Shepards Wharf no later than 7pm on Thursday 31 July 2007 and must complete boat registration, measurement, scrutineering and branding by 9pm that evening.
All competitors must arrive at Cowes Yacht Haven by 8am on Friday 1 August and all crews must complete crew weigh in by 8.45am on Friday 1 August.
Will I receive a Laser SB3 jib if my SB3 is selected to take part in the Volkswagen Touareg King of Cowes?
Yes you will receive a jib. It will be given to you at registration on Thursday 31 July and must be used for the Volkswagen Touareg King of Cowes regatta.
If I am also entering Skandia Cowes Week 2007 will I receive a free spinnakers?
If you are also entering Skandia Cowes Week you will be eligible for a free spinnaker.
Who is ultimately in charge of the boat during the regatta?
Throughout the regatta the helmsman will be the racing skipper and will be responsible for all racing decisions, however, the owner or his nominated representative aboard the boat, remains responsible for the overall safety of the yacht and crew.
Who is responsible for insurance of the boat?
The Laser SB3 owner is required to provide adequate insurance for the boat as describe in the notice of race.
If I win one of the major prizes could this affect my ISAF Sailor Classification?
ISAF imposes no restrictions on occasional, large value, non-monetary prizes so the winning a major prize will not affect your Sailor Classification.
